Availability Requirements: Tuesdays–Thursday, April–October, between 9am and 4pm. Hours are flexible. Minimum commitment is 4 hours per month.
Farm Field Volunteers will help with all aspects of running a small-scale production farm. Schoolyard Farms grows over 40 different annual and perennial fruits and vegetables on one-acre of the schoolyard at Candy Lane ELementary. The produce is grown for a 35-member CSA, Head Start, local grocers and the school cafeteria. Schoolyard Farms does most of their farming by hand. The volunteers will help with seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, bed preparations, watering, trellising, washing and packing produce, small machine maintenance and operation, including weed whackers, mowers and tillers.
Availability Requirements: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, April–June + September-November, between 8 am and 2pm. Shifts are 3 hours long. Minimum commitment is 1 shift per month.
The School Garden Educator Volunteers will assist the Garden Educators in teaching hands-on lessons in the garden on science, conservation, cooking and/or garden skills. They may be asked to lead a group of 8-15 2nd-5th graders in a lesson designed by SYF staff.
Responsibilities include supporting hands-on farm chores such as weeding and harvesting, and reinforcing farm and food safety guidelines for students. Volunteers are expected to keep up-to-date on Schoolyard Farms news and information through newsletters and volunteer refreshers and enrichments.
Volunteers should enjoy being outdoors in all seasons. Experience and/or interest working with school-aged children, and an interest in food, farming and environmental education is preferred.

The Summer Camp Educator Volunteers will assist the Summer Camp Educators in teaching hands-on lessons in the garden on farming, ecology and healthy eating. They may be asked to lead a group of 8-15 2nd-5th graders in a lesson designed by SYF staff.
Responsibilities include providing for the safety, well-being, and care for the unique needs of campers outdoors. Bringing camp curriculum to life for high-energy groups of 1st-6th graders, including prep, leadership and clean-up. Enthusiastically role model healthy eating, active living, and appropriate use of technology Observe Schoolyard Farms’ Food Safety, Farm Safety, 1st Aid, and Emergency Protocol. Commit to consistent attendance, timeliness, and finding own transportation to and from site. Contribute to a safe, inclusive, diverse and fun learning community at Schoolyard Farms.
