Schoolyard Farms 2017 Summer Camp

Camp kicks off on July 10th and runs through September 1st for eight sessions at Candy Lane Elementary School. Rising 1st graders through rising 6th graders will experience a week-in-the-life of an urban production farm while exploring the schoolyard, performing farm tasks, preparing healthy snacks, and participating in farm arts and crafts activities, scientific inquiry, and active play. Outdoors all day!

By supporting Farm Camp you help us achieve our mission of increasing the health of our community by teaching kids how to grow nutritious food that goes from their schoolyard to their plate.

One-Week Sessions

Camper Groups

Campers will be divided into groups of 10-12 based on age.

Schoolyard Detectives: Campers entering 1st through 3rd grades

Are you ready to investigate the FBI? Fungi, bacteria, and invertebrates, that is! Schoolyard Detectives will explore a new mystery of the schoolyard each day with observation skills and hand-built tools for uncovering Farm signs of life. A neighborhood nature experience for budding naturalists and green engineers from all levels of interest and experience in the field!

Schoolyard Farmers: Campers entering 4th through 6th grades

You’re invited to come play with your food—and learn to grow and cook it, too! Schoolyard Farmers will participate in farm tasks each day exploring the seeds, sprouts, stems and leaves, flowers, and fruits we’ll sprinkle into farm-fresh recipes and enjoy eating, right on site. A choice farm-to-fork experience for campers totally new to pulling carrots, young green thumbs, and seasoned food critics, too!

Who leads our camp

Camp is taught by leaders in the outdoor education field.

Our educators are passionate farmers and teachers, alike. We come from several years of outdoor education experience, and are committed to providing campers with a safe and fun summer on the Farm. All educators are CPR and First Aid certified. Read more about our Camp Director, Brooke Hieserich.

Camp is better with friends, that’s why we’re launching a refer-a-family program this year.

The more you refer, the more you save! Refer a family to our camp by July 1, 2017 – both you and the new family save!!

STEP 1: Give a family with a child/children who has/have never attended summer camp at Schoolyard Farms the New Family Referral Code you will receive after your registration. They will automatically save $50 OFF their camp total at checkout.

STEP 2: Remind the new family to enter or say your full name and e-mail at registration.

STEP 3: Look at your next monthly statement. A $25 credit will be issued back to you for every new family who mentions your name, email, and the New Family Referral Code during their registration. There’s NO LIMIT to how many families you can refer!

Important refer-a-friend policies.

What Does My Child Need for Camp?

Every day of camp your child will need to bring: a lunch, water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and close-toed shoes. We recommend you label and pack camper items in a backpack or small bag. We ask that camper cell phones remain in camper backpacks during camp, and all other toys and electronic devices remain at home.

Schoolyard Farms will provide morning snack, afternoon snack, and water every day.
